Instrumental ambient drone duo Immersion, made up of Wire frontman Colin Newman and Minimal Compact’s Malka Spigel are sharing another blip of their electronic tunage with a new single entitled ‘Nanocluster’. “Nanocluster” was taken from the upcoming album, ‘Analogue Creatures Living On An Island’ which is set for release November 25th via swim~.
In the words of Colin Newman “‘Nanocluster’, as a title, relates to the aggregation of very small items which make up the “universe of things”. It is also about how style becomes atomised and a joke about a miniaturisation of Krautrock.”
Besides being a track Nanocluster is also an event.
In conjunction with Tryptich (a 3 night event in January at the Hope & Ruin in Brighton) – Malka Spigel, Graham Duff & Colin Newman curate the launch of Nanocluster, which will be an occasional Brighton-based event. The launch night on Saturday 28th January will feature Spigel & Newman’s Immersion, alongside local electronic acts Merlin Tonto & Eva Bowen. ‘Analogue Creatures Living On An Island’ is the band’s first LP in over 17 years. Between 1994 and 1998, the pair released three critically acclaimed albums of expansive electronica and their forthcoming LP adds a fourth to that collection. In the time between the last album and now, Immersion have kept themselves busy with numerous other projects, both collaboratively (Githead) and separately. The duo also relocated from London to Brighton and this move can be heard in the organic flow of the pair’s new and ever-developing songs.
‘Analogue Creatures Living On An Island’ cannot be simply categorised as ambient music, but rather, with it’s dazzling synths and magnetic electronics, the compositions can become tense and insistent, almost like a futuristic spy film, demonstrating Immersion’s skill at creating miniature worlds of sound alive with detail.
For those who prefer vinyl, the album is available spread across two 10” singles Analogue Creatures and Living On An Island respectively.

Greg never learns. He started Tigr Tigr as a replacement to his other blog, Ventvox.com. Ventvox.com ran as a pop culture blog from 2008-2013 and violently crashed on the very sad day of October 17, 2013. Greg's experience with blogging has grown within the past 10 years and Tigr Tigr is constantly evolving! Tigr Tigr has most recently added a both a forum and Tigr Tigr Podcast.
