Moon Duo Share “Creepin”

Moon Duo, the group that consists of Ripley Johnson (guitar) and Sanae Yamada (keyboard) have released their new single, “Creepin” from their upcoming album Occult Architecture Volume 1 today. “Creepin” is a muted track from Moon Duo and is a bit more accessible than the Moon Duo of yore. Occult Architecture Volume 1 will be released on February 3rd via Sacred Bones.

Moon Duo, the pair of Ripley Johnson (guitar) and Sanae Yamada (keyboards), are set to release their new album, Occult Architecture Vol. 1, on February 3rd via Sacred Bones. A psychedelic opus presented in two separate volumes, Occult Architecture is an intricately woven hymn to the invisible structures found in the cycle of seasons and the journey of day into night, dark into light through the Chinese theory of Yin and Yang. Following the hypnotic “Cold Fear,” which was released last month, today the band shares Vol. 1’s second single, “Creepin’.”

In Chinese, Yin means “the shady side of the hill” and is associated with the feminine, darkness, night, earth. Following this logic, Vol. 1 embraces and embodies Moon Duo’s darker qualities — released appropriately in the heart of winter in the Northern Hemisphere. “Creepin” shows a kinetic side to that dark energy. As described by Ripley, “This song was inspired by the image of Death creeping up on someone (as in the gospel blues ‘When Death Comes Creeping in Your Room’), which is just a spooky idea. It’s about time passing and decay, but it’s also about rebirth, and something new growing out of that decay. Ashes to ashes and all that.”
